Early Years Safeguarding Self-Assessment

Suffolk County Council and the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB) must ensure all providers claiming grant funding early education complete this Safeguarding Self-Assessment document. Failure to return this document to Suffolk County Council will result in a delay to receiving your grant funding and ultimately your ability to claim funding in the future. The template has been cross referenced to key documents to assist you in completing the sections.

Early Years and Childcare Providers Safeguarding Training

Suffolk County Council’s Early Years and Childcare Service offer safeguarding training specific to early years and childcare practitioners (pre-school playgroups, out of school clubs, day nurseries and childminders).

In line with Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirements, childcare providers must take necessary steps to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

All new childminders and members of staff in group childcare provision should receive at least 2 hours Introduction to Safeguarding training, have a good understanding of safeguarding, and attend this course every three years to renew their learning.

  • Level 2 Introduction to Safeguarding Training (including 3-year renewal) is provided face-to-face either as a venue based or in setting course, it should be taken every three years.

  • Level 3 Roles and Responsibilities training for Safeguarding Leads in your organisation and childminders should be taken every three years.

LSCB endorsed Safeguarding training for early years and childcare providers is available on: www.suffolkcpd.co.uk
